Mia (violin):

Orchestra: Australian Chamber Orchestra, Victorian State Opera, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, and the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra.

Mia started piano aged 5 and violin aged 9 after being inspired by the sounds of her father playing jazz.

Studied: She has recently completed her final year at Sydney Conservatorium studying with Assoc Prof Alice Waten; Currently on full scholarship at the National Academy of Music, Melbourne (2020).

Awards: First prize winner at the Open Recital section of the Canberra String Festival.

Other projects: In 2016 and 2017, Mia was selected to participate in Sydney Conservatorium’s Estivo Chamber Music Summer School in Italy where her love of chamber music has continued to grow. She has worked with Eberhard Feltz and members of the London Haydn, Kuss, and Goldner Quartets.

Studied: Bachelor of Music majoring in Violin Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying with Professor Alice Waten; Currently studying on full scholarship at the National Academy of Music, Melbourne (2020).

Member of the Rising Star program at the Sydney Conservatorium. Hana has given concerts at cancer hospitals since the age of 10 and has been the winner of many eisteddfods – including Junior champion.

Awards: Winner of the Marcus Edward Violin Scholarship and semi-finalist at the Kendall National Violin Competition.

Kristian (violin):

Australia’s wunderkind of the violin, Kristian Winther, returns to both direct and perform the solo part in this much-anticipated premiere of Beethoven’s violin concerto in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.

Born in Canberra in 1984 to pianist parents, Kristian Winther studied both violin and conducting

Concerto debut: Sibelius Violin Concerto in 2000

Soloist: Melbourne Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic, and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.

Kristian performed the Australian premieres of Brett Dean’s Violin Concerto “The Lost Art of Letter Writing”

Guest Assistant Concertmaster: Adelaide Symphony, WA Symphony, & the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Concertmaster: Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony, Guest Director and Leader of ACO2.

Competition Winner: Banff International String Quartet Competition. This was followed by critically acclaimed tours of the USA and Europe

Other projects: Kristian is also a composer. He premiered his work for string quartet “…etude” at the Sydney Opera House.

Kristian has performed with many celebrated musicians including Anne-Sophie Van Otter, Richard Tognetti, Brett Dean, and Piers Lane, and has conducted at the Canberra International Music Festival & the Melbourne International Arts Festival.


Ioana (violin):

Ioana began learning the violin at age five, in New Zealand, after her family emigrated from Serbia. She has performed as a core member of the Australian String Quartet.

Her musical background is very much grounded in Romanian and Serbian folk music.

While at UQ, she was awarded the University Medal for outstanding academic achievement, the Sleath String Prize, the Richard Pollett Memorial String Prize, and the 4MBS Musica Viva Sid Page Memorial Prize in Chamber Music.

Australian pianist and composer Andrea Keller is a leading figure on the Australian jazz scene.

Andrea Keller has “one of Australia’s most consistently interesting musical minds.

She has toured extensively nationally and internationally, and her discography includes seven albums under her name and her compositions and performances heard on countless others.

Harry (jazz & pop piano):

Harry graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with first-class Honours in 2013. Harry has performed with many of Australia’s most accomplished jazz musicians including James Morrison, Dale Barlow, and Paul Furniss. He has also been performing regularly with Geoff Bull and the Finer Cuts since 2012, playing and touring extensively with pop music and jazz artists including Matt Corby, Dereb the Ambassador, Touch Sensitive, Ben Hauptmann, Donny Benet, and Ngaiire.

Harry is one of Australia’s most promising young jazz pianists. In 2010 he won the James Morrison Scholarship at the Generations in Jazz Festival in Mount Gambier. He recorded a set of music for ABC Jazz digital radio and has been featured on “Jazztrack” with Mal Stanley. Finalist in the 2019 Freedman Jazz Fellowship.

“My music director Harry Sutherland – when I sent him the music after it was done and asked him to come on tour, he scored the entire album part by part and he was almost more responsible for divvying up each specific role for each band member more than I was. Hugh (jazz guitar):

Hugh began playing guitar at age 5, and by age 11 he had shared a stage with Tommy Emmanuel.

Studied: The Elder Conservatorium; Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts.

Awards: James Morrison Scholarship; The Elder Conservatorium’s award for most outstanding undergraduate.

The James Morrison Scholarship allowed Hugh to study in New York

In 2007, Hugh was a prize winner at the National Jazz Awards, possibly Australia’s most prestigious competition for jazz instrumentalists.
