Mia (violin):

Orchestra: Australian Chamber Orchestra, Victorian State Opera, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, and the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra.

Mia started playing piano at age five and violin at age nine after being inspired by her father playing jazz.

Studied: She has recently completed her final year at Sydney Conservatorium studying with Assoc Prof Alice Waten; Currently on full scholarship at the National Academy of Music, Melbourne (2020).

Awards: First prize winner at the Open Recital section of the Canberra String Festival.

Other projects: In 2016 and 2017, Mia was selected to participate in Sydney Conservatorium’s Estivo Chamber Music Summer School in Italy, where her love of chamber music has continued to grow. She has worked with Eberhard Feltz and members of the London Haydn, Kuss, and Goldner Quartets.

Fiona (violin):

Studied: Completed a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU); full scholarship holder at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) with Dr. Robin Wilson.

Prizes: First prize-winner of the Ena Williams Award, Postgraduate Prize, Owen Fletcher Prize, Barbara Hebden Bursary, Matilda Jane Aplin Prize, Vada Jefferies Prize, Basil Jones Sonata Prize, Nora Baird Bursary, The German Violin Travel Bursary and the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence.

Masterclasses: Fiona has also performed in many masterclasses, including the 2018 Musica Viva masterclass series with world-renowned violinist Ray Chen.

Solo: featured on 4MBS Classic FM as the winner of the QCGU Brisbane Clubs Award and the Club’s Audience Choice Award. Fiona was also a violin soloist with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Kelvin Grove Orchestra.

Orchestra: Concertmaster of the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra during their performance of Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben, where she enjoyed tackling one of the most challenging concertmaster solos in the orchestral repertoire. Fiona was twice the Concertmaster of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s (AYO) National Music Camp and attended the 2019 AYO International Tour and Chamber Players program.

Fiona also loves exploring other genres of music and has performed alongside singer and songwriter Katie Noonan.

Outside of music, Fiona is passionate about food photography and frequently blogs about Brisbane and Melbourne eats online.

Hana (violin):

Orchestra: Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra & a scholarship holder with the Australian Chamber Orchestra for the ACO Academy.

Studied: Bachelor of Music majoring in Violin Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Professor Alice Waten; Currently studying on full scholarship at the National Academy of Music, Melbourne (2020).

Member of the Rising Star program at the Sydney Conservatorium. Hana has given concerts at cancer hospitals since the age of 10 and has won many eisteddfods – including Junior champion.

Awards: Winner of the Marcus Edward Violin Scholarship and semi-finalist at the Kendall National Violin Competition.

Peter (violin):

Peter has performed in Carnegie Hall, New York, Walt Disney Hall, Los Angeles, and Australia with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Studied: First Class Honours at Melbourne University, full scholarship holder at the Australian National Academy of Music.

Awards: Tasmanian Young Achiever of the Year Finalist, Rotary Club of Melbourne Young Achiever of the Year, Winner – Melbourne University Concerto Competition.

Other projects: Chamber music performances throughout Denmark with Principal Violist of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Kristian (violin):

Australia’s wunderkind of the violin, Kristian Winther, returns to both direct and perform the solo part in this much-anticipated premiere of Beethoven’s violin concerto in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.

Born in Canberra in 1984 to pianist parents, Kristian Winther studied violin and conducting.

Concerto debut: Sibelius Violin Concerto in 2000

Soloist: Melbourne Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic, and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.

Kristian performed the Australian premieres of Brett Dean’s Violin Concerto “The Lost Art of Letter Writing”.

Guest Assistant Concertmaster: Adelaide Symphony, WA Symphony, & the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Concertmaster: Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony, Guest Director and Leader of ACO2.

Competition Winner: Banff International String Quartet Competition. This was followed by critically acclaimed tours of the USA and Europe.

Other projects: Kristian is also a composer. He premiered his work for string quartet “…etude” at the Sydney Opera House.

Kristian has performed with many celebrated musicians, including Anne-Sophie Van Otter, Richard Tognetti, Brett Dean, and Piers Lane, and has conducted at the Canberra International Music Festival & the Melbourne International Arts Festival.


Ioana (violin):

Ioana began learning the violin at age five in New Zealand after her family emigrated from Serbia. She has performed as a core member of the Australian String Quartet.

Her musical background is very much grounded in Romanian and Serbian folk music.

“I have always listened to folk, jazz and good popular music, as well as classical music.”

Jessica (violin):

Soloist: Live solo broadcasts on National Public Radio (US), concerto performances with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Yale Symphony Orchestra, Fontainebleau Chamber Orchestra

Film: Featured as a violinist extra for a film with Woody Allen. Recorded strings for films featuring Daniel Radcliffe

Natalia (violin):

Background: Violinist originally from Canberra. Member of the highly respected Harvey family.

Studied: Australian National University – combined degree of Bachelor of Music majoring in Violin Performance and Law. Scholarship holder at the Australian National Academy, Melbourne.

Orchestra: Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Canberra Symphony & Melbourne Symphony.

Solo: Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

Other projects: Selected to perform in a piano trio at Government House for the Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce.

Natalia has been performing with Stringspace since 2011.


Phoebe (violin):

Studied: Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, graduating with First Class Honours at the University of Queensland; National Academy of Music Melbourne Scholarship holder with Dr Robin Wilson;

Awards: Finalist at the ANAM Chamber Music Competition in both 2018 and 2019. While at UQ, she was awarded the University Medal for outstanding academic achievement, the Sleath String Prize, the Richard Pollett Memorial String Prize, and the 4MBS Musica Viva Sid Page Chamber Music Memorial Prize.

Other projects: Phoebe has performed in exciting and innovative festivals around the country with Dots + Loops, PlayOn, Momentum Ensemble, Musica Viva, and at the Bangalow Music Festival, Four Winds Festival and Huntington Estate Music Festival. She has also featured as a Next-Generation Artist with the Southern Cross Soloists.

Anthony (viola):

Studied: Full scholarship holder and graduate of the Australian National Academy of Music; Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide – graduating with first-class honours.

Other projects: Anthony has performed chamber music with the Brodsky Quartet. Regularly performs solo recitals around Melbourne and regional Victoria.

In his spare time, Anthony enjoys cryptic crosswords and knitting and is a confessed cricket tragic.

Lauren has been performing with Stringspace since 2017.


Mee Na (cello):

Studied: Masters of Music at Sydney Conservatorium and the Royal Academy of Music, London. After graduating from ANAM’s Professional Performance Program in 2014, Mee Na completed a 2015 ANAM Fellowship (Melbourne).

Awards: ABC Young Performers Award Finalist (2015); E.V. Llewellyn Memorial Award for Overseas Study and an Australia Council for the Arts Development Grant for Affinity Collective’s 2016 European Tour.

Chamber Music: Winner of the Melbourne International String Quartet Competition.

Studied: Royal College of Music, London. Lily is now based in Melbourne.

Lucie Miller | Stringspace Founder & Director:

Stringspace Director: Establishing Stringspace in 2003, Lucie has organised music for U2 (at the Sydney Opera House), Tiffany & Co., Alannah Hill, the Sydney Opera House, The Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet, Australian Film Director Peter Weir, Hopscotch Films, Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Fashion Week, Sir Richard Branson, Ferrari Maserati, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Sydney Fashion Week & Global TV. She has collaborated with Melbourne band Architecture in Helsinki on a string quartet performance project of their songs and provided recording musicians to the Australian band The Presets.

Most recently, Lucie performed as part of the Stringspace String Quartet at Parliament House for Their Royal Highnesses William and Kate – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This event was hosted by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Other Stringspace events for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet include string quartet lunch music for the President of France, a jazz band for the Prime Minister of Japan in Perth, The Prime Minister’s Christmas Party at Kirribilli House, a string quartet lunch music for Russian President Putin at Guillaume’s – The Sydney Opera House, a string quartet for Chinese President Hu Jintao, a jazz band for the PM’s Australia Day party at Parliament House, a solo guitarist for Australia Day at The Lodge (2017) and many other events hosted by PM John Howard, PM Tony Abbott, PM Kevin Rudd, PM Julia Gillard & PM Malcolm Turnbull.

Lucie has organised private orchestra concerts for Sir Richard Branson, Justin Hemmes, an orchestra for the Sydney preview of the James Bond movie “Spectre“, an outdoor public orchestra concert for Claremont Council in Perth, an in-store orchestra for IKEA, an acclaimed year-long public chamber music concert series for The Prince of Wales Lodge in Adelaide, and many simultaneous jazz bands & string quartets throughout Australia for MYER.

She has booked string players to perform on episodes of the TV show Home & Away. She regularly organises musicians for the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of NSW and the National Portrait Gallery.

Lucie has provided numerous jazz bands for Tiffany & Co. – in Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide, and a jazz band in-store for Louis Vuitton. She has organised a solo violinist to perform throughout Australia for M.A.C Cosmetics – including an event for M.A.C at Vogue Fashion Night Out and a string quartet for the Harpers Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards.

Lucie has booked orchestras to perform music in popular Final Fantasy concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and music at the State Theatre for Disney.

She has staged a string orchestra performance of House of Cards at the Sydney Town Hall for Vivid Festival. This event was an on-stage Leigh Sales interview of Beau Willimon, the House of Cards director.

In 2017, Lucie organised an orchestra for the Sydney Opera House so final decisions on the new acoustics being installed in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House could be made.

Lucie has organised musicians to record string parts for acclaimed arranger Jessica Wells of Jigsaw Music at Sonar Studios and Fox Studios, musicians for pre-show entertainment concerts for the TV show Q & A, and has programmed and directed two concert series for the Sydney Opera House in 2017.

Lucie has toured extensively, performing in hundreds of concerts throughout France, Germany, and Australia with The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Cologne (1999 – 2002), and has performed in many opera and ballet seasons with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (2003 – 2024). She has directed, edited & produced all the Stringspace film clips featured on our YouTube Channel StringspaceLive, and comes from a family of third-generation professional musicians and artists.
